Ark Story
The latest adventures of Fredo & Pid'Jin feature another hilarious exchange of lines that is likely to go down in history.
Check out Fredo & Pid'jin and drop by from time to time for more.
And remember: try to avoid being a "father-husband" to anything, especially goats.

Nokia Morph Concept
Visionary people always look into the future. Every now and then some people look so far into the future that they see stuff like this:
Or, perhaps they're not even looking that far...

Student Syndrome
I finsished my MBA dissertation at 5:36 am, more than 7 hours before the final 13:00 deadline. If I put it this way it actually seems like there was a lot of
time to spare. Later, I spent two and a half hours in traffic trying to get to the faculty so I did end up turning in the paper 12 minutes before the deadline.
That's 11 minutes more than with the previous paper turned in at 11:59 with a 12:00 deadline.
Truthfully speaking, however, it's not like I was given the assignment to write a dissertation on Monday and it was due Friday. We did know about this for
ages and ages and simply didn't do much about it.
What I'd really like to know is why are some of us doomed to always do some things at the last minute?

Jarcalete
Thus went another day and my dissertation still isn't quite finished (but it is 20 pages further than it was yesterday).
To add another item to the list of things to do when you should be writing your dissertation I would like to bring to your attention the Romanian Slang Dictionary (RO: Dictionarul de argou al limbii romane) written by George Volceanov and published by Editura Niculescu in 2006. There, I gave a complete bibliographic reference.
Just to give you an example of how you can have an incredibly good time reading a dictionary here's a word Costi found in this special dictionary a while ago and that I'd been trying to remember ever since:
Jarcalete - haimana intretinuta de o prostituata batrana.
Without this dictionary I would never have known there was a word for that and I'm still having problems understanding WHY we need a word for it... or... why an old prostitute would do that.
Anyway, that dictionary is hours of fun.
For my English-speaking friends, "jarcalete" essentially means: a tramp supported by an old prostitute.
Oh, and on the same page, you'll also find "jagardea", "janghinos" and "jeg penal" which I suppose is what happens when the old prostitute isn't giving the "jarcalete" any money anymore.

Playboy Party
What do you do when you have to finish your MBA dissertation and you're so behind schedule not even an act of God will help you?
You go to the Playboy anniversary party. That's what I did, anyway.
It was a bit disappointing. There were only 10 bunnies and 4 centerfolds. I was glad to be able to get back in touch with a few people I hadn't seen in ages, though.

Snow White and the Five Death-Walkers
The following account will probably shock some people as it discloses
details of activities very uncharacteristic for an extreme-sport,
adrenalin-addicted, night-wasting, junk-food-eating, business-doing guy.
Here goes...
Yesterday afternoon I was watching Duminica in familie (EN: Sunday in
the Family), Antena 1's Sunday afternoon variety TV show, which I think
is probably watched religiously by the majority of house-wives and
retired people in Romania.
The special guest yesterday was Madalina Manole, whom I hadn't seen
doing anything, let alone singing, in ages. Well there she was, all
cute and pretty, dressed like Snow White in the original Disney
cartoon, when Mihaela Radulescu invited the guys from IRIS
(best-selling Romanian hard rock band) on stage to present them with a
platinum disk. I don't know how it happened exactly but Madalina Manole
started playing IRIS' Strada Ta and the guys from IRIS joined in. So, I
guess it was IRIS featuring Madalina Manole.
Very cool and unusual! Definitely a great TV moment.

Sensixa Future Tech Sensor
As usual I want stuff that isn't even available yet.
Yesterday
morning as I was heading to a conference in Brasov I was discussing
some new ideas over the phone when Bluetooth Heart Monitors came up in
the conversation (you don't want to know how we got there).
Talk about cutting edge technology. Yesterday I was really impressed with some of the stuff created by Alive Technologies. Today I'm not too impressed by Alive Tehcnologies anymore as I found this:
e-AR Sensixa
Yes,
it's a bluetooth heart monitor. Yes, it's small enough to comfortably
wear on your earlobe. No, you can't buy it. Anywhere!... Yet!
Other
applications include, get this, Computer Game Control. The gizmo has
other little sensors in it including, apparently, position and
vibration sensors that cam be used instead of your usual gamepad to
play games. I guess that makes it a Heart Monitor / Game Pad or, for
the sake of accuracy, Ear Pad.

Smoke on the Yangtze
I'm pretty sure Deep Purple had no idea it would come to this when they wrote Smoke on the Water. This is too cool...
A special thanks to my cousin Marius for sending us the link and to my mother for making me listen to it... over and over.

Independent Kosovo
Yesterday the Serbian province of Kosovo declared its independence. The
declaration was followed by riots and attacks on the US embassy in
Belgrade and by skirmishes between the inhabitants in various cities in
Kosovo.
I'm just mentioning this as I realize most people aren't following
events on the international scene as closely as I am. As this problem
strikes so close to home it has the potential to influence our lives
here in Romania in more ways than one.
It's hard for me to understand why some people want to be separated
from all others in tiny nation states, considering what the world looks
like today.

Yachting Expert Blog
For the past couple of weeks I've been working on preparing the launch
of a new blog on one of the websites running WHIMS. The site in
question is YachtExpert - www.yachtexpert.ro - and the blog is obviously about Yachting - www.yachtexpert.ro/el/blog
Doru and Remy both boast impressive resumes, giving this new blog a
good deal of authority on the subject. I trust they will make a good
team and turn this project into a success.
I already want to recommend you read this first article (Romanian language only) on why we call the left and right side of a ship something other than simply left and right.
