New Snowboarding Gear
So, I went out and did it. I actually did it!
I bought myself snowboarding boots, board and bindings today. Tomorrow I'm hoping to take them out for a spin. So, watch out! One of the slopes in this country is going to get ploughed, not by my board most likely by various parts of my body.
Wish me luck!

Beowulf
We saw the new Beowulf last night. I recommend it (and not just for Angelina Jolie being in it). It's a pretty good version of the story and the CG effects make it even more enjoyable.
You should just be aware that it does exhibit a fair amount of blood and gore. People die, you see how it happens.
Nice quote: I am Ripper... Tearer... Slasher... I am the Teeth in the Darkness, the Talons in the Night. Mine is Strength... and Lust... and Power! I AM BEOWULF!

Ice Skates
I just realized I forgot to make a very important announcement.
Santa brought me ICE SKATES for Christmas this year. They arrived just in time for the Russian Orthodox Christmas which just goes to show how Santa always thinks of everything (I had gifts for both Christmases). I'm very, very happy Santa had the inspiration and the idea for this great gift.
Thanks, Santa!

Snowboard
Today was winter sport day. I went snowboarding in Predeal with Costi and Andrei. I snowboarded, they skied.
Since it was my first time on a snowboard it was more like ploughing the ski slope with my ... body. If I will still feel my body tomorrow we might go again, but at the moment it looks unlikely. I'm not just in pain, I am pain.

Hours of Gummy Bear Fun
If you want to drive all your friends OUT of their minds (like I'm probably doing here) try driving them out of their minds in style and in several different languages.
Aaand, this is what you need to do when you really can't take it anymore:
Thanks, Gazi, for the tip about the song.

Snow Country
As most of you have probably heard, important parts of Romania are under siege by winter weather.
Well, coming back from Oradea yesterday we encountered little of what was described on the radio or on TV. Cluj was snowed in but other than that Transylvania was pretty clean. I just got a bit of snow as I was heading into Predeal but I really shouldn't complain as I was lucky enough to avoid the tide of tourists withdrawing to Bucharest.
Today is a different story. I'm at the airport in Otopeni. The runways have been closed for the past 4 hours and just as I'm writing I understand they're preparing to let the first planes land. It's been really fun getting here, too. For part of the trip we were part of a convoy headed by 3 ploughs clearing the road (see attached picture). The parking lot here at the airport is FULL of snow. Cars that have been here overnight have more than half a meter of snow on them. The only good thing I can think of is that from what I hear Bucharest is even worse.
To conclude I'd like to send out some special wishes of good health and best of luck to those people with SUVs who overtook the snow ploughs on the way here. It seems God gave you expensive cars and took away your f#%*ing minds.

Last Day of the Year
I began the last day of 2007 with a ride (on horse-back) through the
beautiful country-side around our B&B. Afterwards I showered and
took a nap.
After lunch we went bowling in Oradea for an hour or so, and scored an
average of about 81. That's entirely unimpressive even for me but I
didn't have time to worry about that as we rushed to the spa for
another round of hot and cold watery fun. Just as I described before,
the water was hot and the air was freezing. I should mention that the
darkness and the dim artificial lighting really add to the mystic feel
of the spa.
When we got back we showered and got ready for our festive New Year's
Dinner. Counting the ones at the spa that makes 4 showers in one day,
making for a very clean end of year.
The New Year's Party was your typical sit down and eat for 9 hours type
of event, sprinkled with a lot of crazy dancing to make room for all
the food. Our small group of close friends decided we would dress
casual for the party. In my case that meant army fatigues, army boots
and a rag-style t-shirt. The other 50 people at the party didn't get
the dress-casual memo.
I'd say it was an excellent day. May we have many more like it in 2008
and in years to come and may all my friends always be at least as merry
as I saw them tonight.
Happy New Year, Everyone!

Relaxing for the New Year
We're still preparing for the innevitable coming of the New Year.
We woke up around 9 am today. I had a massage between 10 and 11 and I went back to sleep for 3 hours. We had lunch between 2 and 4 pm and then we went to the spa. It was really cool to bathe in an outdoor swimming pool with sub-zero temperatures in the air. It really made you want to stay in the 40 degree water indefinitely.

New Year's Party Preparations
We've arrived at the venue of our upcoming Mega New Year's Party. We took the long way round through the Apuseni mountains, increasing our mileage but also ensuring that we'd go through some really magnificent scenery.

On the 7th Commandment
With all the risks of Google permanently tagging my blog as RELIGIOUS, I have to link to a friend's post. It's absolutely hilarious. It's also in Romanian so I'm really sorry for non-romanian speakers who can't enjoy this.
Click the link to go to Fishy's Blog post entitled "Preacurvesc deci exist"
LATER EDIT: I fixed the link
