There's an interesting article in the current issue of the Financial Week (RO: Saptamana Financiara) about how the educational system should be privatized.
The proposal is actually a slight adaptation of Milton Friedman's writings on the same issue. The idea would be for the state to give parents an "education cheque" that they could use to send their children to kindergarten, school or whatever. This way poor people's ability to keep their children in school wouldn't be affected and competition between educational institutions would be encouraged thus leading to an improvement in quality of education and a decrease in costs.
