As most of you have probably heard, important parts of Romania are under siege by winter weather.
Well, coming back from Oradea yesterday we encountered little of what was described on the radio or on TV. Cluj was snowed in but other than that Transylvania was pretty clean. I just got a bit of snow as I was heading into Predeal but I really shouldn't complain as I was lucky enough to avoid the tide of tourists withdrawing to Bucharest.
Today is a different story. I'm at the airport in Otopeni. The runways have been closed for the past 4 hours and just as I'm writing I understand they're preparing to let the first planes land. It's been really fun getting here, too. For part of the trip we were part of a convoy headed by 3 ploughs clearing the road (see attached picture). The parking lot here at the airport is FULL of snow. Cars that have been here overnight have more than half a meter of snow on them. The only good thing I can think of is that from what I hear Bucharest is even worse.
To conclude I'd like to send out some special wishes of good health and best of luck to those people with SUVs who overtook the snow ploughs on the way here. It seems God gave you expensive cars and took away your f#%*ing minds.
