Romanian Sounds Funny

Return

I recently read this little piece in a Romanian online newspaper about a BBC TV Show in the UK making fun of a couple of words in Romanian that were coming out of a Sat Nav. This is an extract from the TV show in question:

To me it's perhaps not as funny as it is for some of you English speaking folk, but the laughter is quite contagious nevertheless.

In response to that all I can say is:

Dictionary.com word of the day - June 23rd, 2009

pule: to whimper; to whine.

I don't get it. Why are they laughing at "yarzi" as well?

I'm not entirely sure. Someone said it sounds a bit like "arse" but I think it sounds more like "yards" so it's not funny, it shouldn't be...

Besides the fact that I did not know the word "pule" existed I didn't get why this was an appropriate response on your part. Care to explain?

@Mack, in Romanian the word "pule" sounds like the plural of the vulgar form of the word penis.

Since it isn't even the right spelling and it just happened to pop up in my iGoogle page soon after I watched the BBC video I thought it was the perfect response.
