Duo Melis - International Guitar Festival Duo Melis - International Guitar Festival

Tonight was the first time I went to Casa Radio (the Radio House) since I came to Bucharest. It took 5 years and the International Guitar Festival for me to finally get there.

It was already the 7th concert of the festival. The only performers for the night were Duo Melis (Susana Prietos and Alexis Muzurakis). The performance was incredible. My lower jaw is still a bit sore after keeping my mouth open for the 2 hours the concert lasted.

You can see a bit more about them here www.duomelis.com

Last Minute Adventures Last Minute Adventures

After a 3 hour shopping spree in Malga's El Corte Ingles (Plain language translation: huge shopping center) we decided to head to the airport a bit early as we had to return the rented car before we got on the plane.

Of course we missed the proper highway exit and found ourselves on the wrong side of the city. We pulled up near a motorcyclist at a stop to ask for directions and SHE very kindly offered to drive in front of us to show us the way. I guess you could say we had a motorcycle escort.

10 minutes later we were already at the airport.

The plan was pretty simple: return the rented car, check in, get on the plane, get home. Well, if only we had anyone to return the car to. The person who was supposed to be waiting for us there was nowhere to be found and apparently the company we rented the car from didn't even have offices in the airport.

After calling the hotel, calling all the phone numbers we could find for the rental company, searching the entire airport for somebody who looks like they might be looking for a car we decided to take the advice of the lady at the information desk. We parked the car in front of the airport, put the key in the booth and left.

Marbella Marbella

We initially planned to drive all the way to Gibraltar but as our goal was to go where the road would take us we ended up stopping in Marbella.

Benalmadena Benalmadena

We spent most of Sunday in Benalmadena, just a few kilometers down the coast from Malaga.

Romanians in Malaga Romanians in Malaga

We only encountered a couple of Romanians in Malaga although we were told the city is supposedly full of them.

La Sanctisima Trinidad La Sanctisima Trinidad

One of the highlights of our stay in Malaga, from my point of view at least, was finding the Sanctisima Trinidad.

Malaga - Cathedral and Castles Malaga - Cathedral and Castles

I honestly chose Malaga as a destination for this trip based less on any prior research on its historical importance or on its renowned opportunities for fun and a whole lot more on the simple fact it was on the list of available low-rate flights and it offered a high probability of warm/hot weather.

It turned out to be an excellent choice as it gave me the opportunity to visit quite a bit of Spanish history and it offered a lot of fun to go with it. In the single day we spent entirely in Malaga we only had time to visit a few of the historical landmarks, most notably of which the cathedral, the Alcazaba (Arab fortress at the foot of the hill) and the Gibralfaro (the castle on top of the hill).

While the Gibralfaro is pretty much just a big enclosure with thick walls on top of a hill, the Alcazaba was very impressive because of the very distinctive Moorish architectural style but also because besides the thick walls of a fortress it has gardens, rooms and inner courtyards which really send your imagination to distant places and distant times.

After seeing the Alcazaba the only thing that justified the 30 minute walk up the hill to the Gibralfaro was the view. I probably expected a whole lot more from the castle by comparison with the Alcazaba.

To the Airport on Foot To the Airport on Foot

We decided to go to the south of Spain for the weekend, taking advantage of the ridiculously low prices on some flights this time of year. After taking the 41 tram to get to Piata Presei Libere because it was the fastest way to get there I could think of I was planning on taking a taxi to the Baneasa airport just a few kilometers away. Surprise, surprise! The road towards the airport was jammed as it was Friday afternoon and all the inhabitants of Bucharest were on their usual weekend migration path, fleeing the city, heading for greener pastures.

So, I ended up walking from Piata Presei to the airport. I'm not exactly sure but I think it's about 2-3 kilometers. It sure felt like more than that considering I had a small suitcase with my luggage and Ancuta's luggage and my usual backpack with an unusually heavier load.

NetBridge Company Party NetBridge Company Party

Last night was the Woman's day party / Inaugural party for NetBridge Development. NetBridge Investments was obviously there as well, although represented only by a handful of our people.

I had a reasonable amount of fun. I find it very useful to be able to relate to coworkers in something other than the regular working situation and I definitely recommend this kind of event to any company desiring to have real teams. Apart from the by now traditional "Offline Stars" Karaoke contest there was a small guitar musical interlude and a lot of dancing. Although it was OK for this party I don't recommend Club Silver as a regular club-going location to anyone who's not a house-addict.

I got home pretty early... in the morning that is.
